Northridge & Opus Dei
Northridge was founded by parents and educators who were inspired by the spirit of Opus Dei. Opus Dei is an institution of the Catholic Church comprised of lay people and priests that helps ordinary people seek holiness through everyday activities. The Founder of Opus Dei, St. Josemaría Escrivá, encouraged parents to organize private schools. With the local bishop’s approval, Opus Dei oversees the religious education and spiritual formation for Northridge parents, teachers and students. At the same time the school is run by an independent Board of Directors.
The mission of Northridge is to help parents educate their sons to be competent, responsible professionals who live by moral principles. Many of the special strengths of Northridge reflect the spirit of Opus Dei such as the following:
• Academic excellence by striving for personal holiness in ordinary work • Individual character formation through a one-on-one advisory program • Outstanding teachers who exemplify Christian principles • Practical classes on parenting skills and character development
Opus Dei’s role at Northridge is to encourage everyone (parents, teachers, students and alumni) to take his or her faith seriously by living it in their particular circumstances. To achieve that objective, Opus Dei offers:
• Individual spiritual attention • Mass and Confession • Classes on the teachings of the Catholic Church • Evenings of recollection and silent retreats
